Interscalable Metastructures by Sevil Yazıcı: "Follow the Stemonitis Fusca"

I participated in the Interscalable Metastructures workshop, organized as part of Digital Futures 2022 and led by Sevil Yazıcı. Throughout the three-day workshop, participants explored the intersection of material-based computational design and natural systems.


The first day focused on understanding key terms and concepts, analyzing and abstracting microstructures found in nature. On the second day, these microstructures were interpreted within digital tool ecologies, initiating the design of metastructures using algorithmic modeling tools and refining ideas through iterative processes. The final day emphasized developing metastructures at different scales, functionally interpreting the outcomes, and presenting them in a collaborative discussion.


During the workshop, I experimented with various Grasshopper plug-ins and developed a structure inspired by Stemonitis Fusca, using Culebra to explore dynamic and adaptive design strategies.

Inspired by the complexity and elegance of Stemonitis Fusca, the process merged biological observation with parametric and algorithmic exploration, resulting in adaptive structures that bridge natural forms and digital design workflows.
